Penny – Penny is an Oklahoma girl, born in August 2024, and she has grown into one of the most prominent members of our household. From her earliest days as a puppy, she showed us exactly who she was: independent, curious, and always ready to explore. She used to roam the property for hours, many of those adventures happening after she quietly slipped away without me realizing it. “Miss Independent” fit her perfectly then, and honestly, it still does.

She’s an intelligent dog—one of those Goldens you can almost see thinking. Watching her process new situations and figure out solutions has been fun from day one. She learns quickly and has always had a good sense of how to fit herself into the dynamics of our group.

What makes Penny special, though, is her loving nature. She is about as affectionate as a Golden Retriever can get and still firmly believes she’s a lap dog. Despite growing up and settling into adulthood, she hasn’t lost that side of her personality.

Over time, Penny has developed into a calm, gentle young lady. She’s still independent and loves to explore the property, but she’s also incredibly sweet and easy to be around. Everyone who meets her ends up loving her, and she brings a warm, steady presence to the house and the program.

Penny is a wonderful representative of what we look for in our females here at Big Lake Goldens—intelligent, kind-hearted, confident, and full of personality
